1990MW Poland Gold 200 K Zlotych - 1990MW Poland G200KZ Solidarity Anniversary, KM-Y # 222, NGC PF64 UCAM. In its population report, NGC shows 1 1990 gold 200 K Zlotych “Solidarity Anniversary” in PF64 UCAM. This Ultra Cameo proof 1990 200,000 zlotych coin of Poland commemorates the tenth anniversary of the Solidarity movement. The coin has deep, mirrored fields and highly reflective devices, as expected for a UCAM proof piece. Only a couple of microscopic contact marks keep this excellent piece from a Gem grade. Of course every detail is sharp and fully struck.

The obverse shows the word Solidarity over the Solidarity monument. A city view is the background. The reverse shows the Imperial eagle, which faces left, above the denomination. The date is split on each side of the eagle’s talons.

The full name of Solidarity is the Independent Self-governing Trade Union Solidarity. It emerged on August 31, 1980 at the Gdansk Shipyard under the leadership of Lech Walesa. Perhaps most significant is that Solidarity was the first non-communist controlled trade union in Poland. By September 1981, it had 9.5 million members, which was one-third of the total working age population of Poland. In addition to being a trade union, it was broad anti-bureaucratic social movement that used the methods of civil resistance to advance the causes of workers’ rights and social change. In the early 1980s the government used martial law and several years of political oppression in an attempt to destroy the movement, but it was finally forced to negotiate with the union. The negotiations known as the Round Table Talks, led to a semi-free election in 1989; however, in December 1990, a new coalition government led by Walesa was formed. Since then Solidarity has become a more traditional, liberal trade union.

In its population report, NGC shows 1 1990 gold 200 K Zlotych “Solidarity Anniversary” in PF64 UCAM.
