1883 Three Dollars Gold PCGS MS63
CAC. A frosty survivor of this low mintage gold coin.
A miniscule number of 900 pieces were struck in this
year. An approximate number of 175 to 235 pieces are
believed to exist in all grades.
Most collectors include only one or two examples
in their sets as a representative for this type. As
a result, the higher mintage dates are always in demand,
while the issues with lower mintages are often looked
upon as genuine opportunities for the rare coin investor.
This creates the unusual situation that very low mintage
coins are still relatively affordable. As this series
attracts becomes more known to both collectors and
investors, prices are destined to increase rapidly.
The present piece was most likely set aside by a
collector of the time. Very lustrous surfaces are
shown on both obverse and reverse. Sharply struck,
the coin has no major distractions. Some tiny hairlines
and scuffing is noted on the reverse, the only grade-limiting
factor. A rare opportunity to obtain a choice example
of this scarce issue.
