1786 New
Jersey copper, straight beam, narrow shield, NGC VF25BN.
A moderately circulated example of this popular colonial
coin. These coins were authorized by law in 1786, and
were struck for three years in different towns in New
Jersey and New York. These state coppers circulated at
fifteen to a shilling.
This piece is struck on a choice planchet and scarce
as such. Large quantities of these pre-federal issues
were struck, and they circulated freely in the state.
Finding uncirculated pieces as such is very difficult,
but this nicely circulated coin will suit most collectors.
Struck from rotated dies, this is a great colonial type
coin.
