1805
Quarter Eagle - The 1805 Quarter Eagle
is one of the more frequently encountered issues, but its
mintage of 1,781 pieces would put this date at the top in
rarity of almost any other series of U.S. coins.
Only 75 to 100 quarter eagles of this date
are known to exist today. The obverse stars are arranged with
seven to the left and six to the right as on the 1797 coin.
The 5 in the date is very small. Many of the
existing specimens are in proof-like or partially proof-like
condition.
The obverse die used on this coin was also
used to make the 1806/5 variety and the reverse die was used
on both the 1806/4 and the 1806/5 varieties.
