1806 QUARTER EAGLE
6 over 4, Stars 8 Left, 5 Right
1806
Quarter Eagle - There are two overdates for 1806
Quarter Eagle, one over a 4 and the other over a
5 - 1806/4 Quarter Eagle and 1806/5
Quarter Eagle, the latter being considerably scarcer.
The 1806/4 Quarter Eagle
is very easy to identify by both the date and the arrangement
of the obverse stars. They are arranged eight to the left
and five to the right on this variety. This issue is almost
always struck with weak centers.
The 1806/5 Quarter Eagle
is the third rarest in the series. The overdate is not as
easy to see as on the 1806/4 Quarter Eagle
variety because of the shapes of the numerals; however, it
is easy to distinguish because of the arrangement of the stars
on the obverse. They are in a seven to the left and six to
the right pattern.
