1837
Quarter Eagle - In 1837 the fineness changed to .900 gold.
The mintage dropped to 45,080, less than a tenth of the previous
year's output. PCGS has certified 134 pieces, and NGC
has 238. Fully detailed specimens of this date are rare because
most show weakness at the centers. Only 2 proofs are known
one of which is in the Smithsonian. One has been certified
proof 66 by PCGS, and 2 have been certified at NGC one in
PFUC66 and one in PFUC67. At least one of these was resubmitted.
