February 29, 2024-New Orleans Gold Rarities

Hello All,

February has come and gone with a cool breeze here in Florida. Yes Matilda it gets cool here too although nothing like what y'all are experiencing up north. Brrr. To help you warm up a bit please review this weeks offerings which consist of great scarce to rare examples from the New Orleans Mint.

New Orleans may be known as "The Big Easy" but when it comes to rare gold coins they should also be known as the home of great gold rarities! Collecting gold coins minted in New Orleans is a very popular pastime and can be quite challenging as there are numerous rarities scattered throughout each denomination minted in this great Southern mint's Antebellum Period ( 1838-1861 ) and then of course in gold and silver coins post Civil War. There have been well known titans of industry in America who seek out these coins to form collections of historically and numismatically important rarities. While one does not have to assemble a complete set of coins minted in New Orleans which could become a long arduous pursuit not to mention expensive, it is absolutely within the means of many collectors to own just a few of these great gold rarities in their collections.

This week we are showing some very important specimens from each denomination such as a choice uncirculated overdate the 1851/1851-O Quarter Eagle, choice about uncirculated 1909-O Indian Half Eagle, and several Eagles and Double Eagles such as an 1847-O Eagle, 1850-O and 1858-O Double Eagles which are rarely available and others.

When you see a rare coin of interest, please click to request images and to temporarily reserve the coin, giving yourself a little time to review the images that we'll send you and communicating with us that you would like us to hold the coin while you do your research.

Please also note that these are just some selections from the vast inventory of really great rare coins we have to offer. If you do not see what you are looking for on our website, send us an email or give us a call, because if it's a really rare coin, chances are we have a lead on one for you or have it in the safe!

Please contact me as soon as possible, as this is a very healthy rare coin market.

Don't hesitate to share your Want List items; we are adept at filling them, and we're discreet.
