WHY YES MATILDA-CALIFORNIA WAS INVOLVED IN THE CIVIL WAR

Hello All

We hope all is well and that you enjoyed last weeks “Morgan Dollar Mania”.

This week we bring you Gold coins that were minted just prior to and during the American War Between The States, otherwise known as the Civil War.

Was California involved in the Civil War? You bet! And the California Gold Rush provided mush needed gold coins! California's involvement in the American Civil War included sending gold east to support the war effort, recruiting volunteer combat units to replace regular U.S. Army units sent east, in the area west of the Rocky Mountains, maintaining and building numerous camps and fortifications, suppressing secessionist activity (many of these secessionists went east to fight for the Confederacy) and securing the New Mexico Territory against the Confederacy. The State of California did not send its units east, but many citizens traveled east and joined the Union Army there, some of whom became famous.

California's role in the American Civil War was mainly strategic, financial, and political. The state sent gold east to support the war effort, recruited volunteer combat units to replace regular U.S. Army units sent east, and suppressed secessionist activity. California also secured the New Mexico Territory against the Confederacy. California was not a certain ally of the Union, but it proved pivotal to its victory.

Please review this weeks list to see some very neat ( and rare ) coins just prior to the Civil Wars breakout and also while the war was raging. These are all prized numismatic coins of today. Add one or more to your collection today or plan to put a "type set of San Francisco Mint" Civil War gold coins together as an investment for tomorrow!

And please take a double look at the awesome Kellogg $20 Territorial Gold. California Gold Rush fields in the Sierra Nevada produced these which are prized among collectors.

Better rare coins are selling at a much faster rate than usual so please email me with any image requests or request we hold the coin/coins you are considering. If I mark hold on them then you have a couple of days to ponder and make a decision while feeling confident that the specimens that interest you the most are on hold with your name on them!

Please contact me as soon as possible as this is a very healthy rare coin market.

Don't hesitate to share your Want List items - we are adept at filling them, and we're discreet.

We wish you and your family continued health & prosperity.

Numismatically Yours,

Thomas M. Pilitowski
