1792 G.BRIT D&H-233 1/2P Warwickshire Conventry, E: Payable at Warehouse. NGC VF35 BN. 1792 GB Lady Godiva Conder Token D&H-233 Halfpenny. This brown and steel-grey token is somewhat darker on the reverse than the obverse. Even wear is seen on both sides in keeping with the grade. The token depicts Lady Godiva naked riding through the town. The legend PRO BONO REPUBLICO for the public good is above. The reverse depicts the elephant and castle, which is the coat of arm of Coventry and the denomination HALFPENNY.
William Lutwyche, who worked for a Birmingham coinage firm, produced a series of Lady Godiva tokens for Reynolds and Company of Coventry. In addition to making needed coinage for small change, a political statement was being made since Lady Godiva was naked so her husband would lower the taxes he had imposed.
