1795 Silver Dollar FH 3 Leaves PCGS VF30. BB-27. Bold XF look. Pretty peripheral toning. Offered here is a wonderful and scarce original example of the first silver dollar type struck in the United States. Minted for just two short years with the 1794 being an extreme rarity, the 1795 issue is much in demand in any grade for a type coin. Yet, original examples are extremely hard to find, especially when considered to be premium quality, as seen here. The first silver dollars were designed by Robert Scot, who was also responsible for a number of other coin designs, including the gold coins introduced this and the next year.

There are several major varieties for this issue, which saw an estimated mintage of 160,295 pieces for circulation. This was a major increase over the previous years mintage of just 1,758 coins, which are usually found in damaged condition and are rare in undamaged condition. The coin offered here, as identified on the label, has three leaves under the eagles wing, inside the wreath. It is further identified by having a slighter higher relief of the design on both sides, which adds to the overall strength and eye-appeal of this particular coin. While common, it remains to be a perfect type coin offered at an affordable level.

The originality of the coin that is presently offered here is excellent, as is also confirmed by the CAC sticker. The color is an even light-grey, with pretty peripheral toning developed on both sides. No major marks are seen on both sides, except for those that are consistent with the grade. It features especially bold reverse details in the eagles wings, which are much better than usually encountered at this grade level. Even in this grade, it remains to be apparent that the strike was exceptionally strong at the time of minting this piece. The obverse also features strong details, with good hair detail and a strong overall look. In all, this is a great piece for anyone interested in owning one of the first silver dollar issues.
