1806 Draped Bust Half Dollar, Heraldic Eagle Reverse, Pointed 6, Stem, PCGS AU55. Robert Scots portrayal of Liberty is one of the all time great classic designs within American numismatics. His beautiful rendition translates brilliantly to the larger size of the silver half dollar and the result is an aesthetic masterpiece. Struck while the United States was still in her infancy, at a time when the Louisiana Purchase was being explored by Lewis & Clark, this fine specimen represented a significant amount of money to the populace of the day.
There are seven major varieties known for this issue. This particular variety features a pointed 6 in the date and a stem that can be seen extending from the eagles claw. Unlike many examples encountered from this era, the piece offered here exhibits natural dark coloring and an original look that is highly sought after by astute collectors. Well struck devices retain the majority of their detail and only light even wear is present. An attractive peripheral toning can be seen along the rim on the obverse. This is an above average example of this date with marvelous eye appeal sure to please the most discriminating collector.
