1834 Half Eagle $5 Plain 4 NGC AU58. 1834 $5, Classic Head, Plain 4 NGC. The first year of relatively available gold coins, this first year of issue Classic Head half eagle is certified by NGC at the popular AU-58 grade level. Available at a relatively low price for their scarcity and popular, this coin would be a very good alternative to a more expensive uncirculated coin. With its pleasing and relatively mark-free surfaces, the minor wear on the highest point of the obverse is the only reason why this coin was not certified at the Mint State level. The green-orange golden coloration looks very pleasing in hand, along with the subdued luster which highlights both sides. A great coin for a type or date set.
