1836 $2.50 (1836 Quarter Eagle) NGC AU58. 1836 saw the highest mintage of classic head quarter eagles, with a total of 547,986 produced for circulation. Most of the remaining examples, however, are heavily bagmarked and show signs of circulation, making uncirculated coins very scarce.
While the present piece shows some luster breaks on the highest coins, it has at first glance the look of a true uncirculated coin. No major hits are noted on either side, which have a wonderful light red-yellow color. Abundant luster is visible on both sides, making this a great coin to be the representative of the type in a gold type set.
