This is also the second and last year the Charlotte Mint struck quarter eagles of the classic head design. In fact, this is the only issue of this short-lived type which is more or less affordable for collectors putting together type sets of this Mint. With complete sets of quarter eagles being an extreme hard task to the immense number of issues and difficulty of many issues, these sets have become more popular during the last decade. As such, prices have gone upwards for all of the Southern-Mint coins.

The present coin circulated for a short time, but has retained large amounts of luster in the protected areas. The fields are only moderately marked, with the strike being near full. Later issues of this Mint usually come (extremely) weakly struck, but it appears the Mint strived to produce good looking coins during its first few years of production. This is apparent on this coin to this coin, making this a great example of a scarce issue, which becomes extremely are in even the lowest mint state grades.
