1846-O Half Dollar (1846-O 50C Seated) Tall Date, NGC XF45 CAC. A bit of original mint luster remains on this rare variety Southern branch mint 1846-O Seated Half Dollar. The coin is light and dark grey with touches of green, blue, and purple. Usually found it low grades, the fields of this coin are virtually clean with just a touch of wear on the high points of the design, in keeping with the grade, which is confirmed by CAC.
The Liberty Seated Half Dollar was in use from 1839 to 1891. It showed a seated figure of Liberty facing left holding a staff and Phrygian cap in one hand and the Union shield inscribed LIBERTY in the other with the date below. Dentils are around the periphery of both sides of the coin. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle facing left with arrows and an olive branch in its talons. Above is UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the denomination written as HALF DOL. is below. The O mintmark is above the F in HALF.
In its population report NGC shows 2 1846-O Tall Date halves in XF45 with 12 better. In CAC only the present coin has been confirmed.
