1849-O Gold Dollar (1849-O G$1) ANACS AU55 Bent. Because this coin was bent, ANACS gave it a details grade, which makes for an opportunity to acquire an inexpensive historic coin. Some mint luster is seen within the devices as well as light abrasion, in keeping with the grade. There is also a scratch under star nine touching Libertys hair. Except for some central weakness, the strike is strong on both sides.
In this coin designed by James B. Longacre, we see Liberty wearing an inscribed Coronet facing left. Her hair is tightly tied except for two curls that flow down her neck. The reverse is a simple open wreath with berries tied in a bow. A large 1 for the denomination is at the top of the wreath. The word DOLLAR is below the number followed by the date above the bow. The mintmark, in this case an O for New Orleans, is below the bow.
