1855-O Eagle (1855-O $10) NGC AU53. Mint luster outlines the devices of this pleasant branch mint 1855-O Eagle. Very light surface abrasion and light wear on the high points keep this 1855-O Eagle coin from a mint state grade. The strike is average on both sides with some central weakness seen on the reverse. The obverse also shows weakness on most of the stars. The New Orleans Mint was authorized in 1835 by President Andrew Jackson. The location was chosen because of its convenience as a port of entry. Mexican gold and silver was deposited at New Orleans.

Christian Gobrechts eagle was produced without substantial change from 1838 to 1866, when it was modified by adding the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. It uses the Coronet design which shows Liberty in profile facing left, her hair tied tightly in beads, except for two curls one down the back of her neck and the other on the side below her ear, with the word LIBERTY inscribed on the coronet. She is surrounded by thirteen stars, and the date is below the truncation. Dentils are around the periphery of both sides. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle facing left holding arrows and olive branch it its talons. The inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA arcs around it, interrupted by the wing tips, and the denomination TEN D. is below. The denomination is separated from the legend with dots.
