1861 G$1 Gold Dollar PCGS MS64. Certified by PCGS in an old green holder, this coin is a wonderful and very original survivor from the Civil War era. Generally considered to be a common date, the 1861 gold dollars saw a total mintage of 527,150 pieces for circulation. Most remain in lower uncirculated grades, and gems, or higher are scarce.
The present piece is a premium quality MS-64 gold dollar that might upgrade to gem someday. Original and very lustrous fields show on both sides, which are toned to a splendid orange-yellow gold color. No major marks are seen on either side, which are boldly struck. A great coin for the collector seeking an affordable Civil War gold dollar! Please note that the marks on both sides appear on the holder and not on the actual coin.
