1861 Seated 50C (1861 Half Dollar) ANACS F15 Details. Seated Half Dollar. This Civil War dated Liberty Seated 1861 Half Dollar, although lightly cleaned, has sufficient detail to warrant a grade of Fine15. The devices are heavily outlined and some toning has returned to the peripheries.
The obverse depicts Liberty seated holding Union shield in her right hand and a pole with a liberty cap in her left as she looks over her right shoulder. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle looking left. In its talons are arrows and olive branch, the symbols of preparedness and peace. The denomination HALF DOL. is below the eagle.
The 1861 is a Variety 1 type (resumed) with a weight standard of Variety 2, 12.44 grams. The various varieties of the Liberty Seated half dollar were used mostly to show changes in weight.
