1861 Seated 50c (1861 Half Dollar) ANACS G6. This Civil War dated Seated Liberty 1861 Half Dollar has light devices set against darker fields. The devices are a silvery-grey and the fields are a mixture of grey, tan, and green. The coin shows all seven letters of LIBERTY, with L and I strong, to confirm the grade. For the grade, the surfaces are clean and free of distractions.
The obverse depicts Liberty seated holding Union shield in her right hand and a pole with a liberty cap in her left as she looks over her right shoulder. The reverse shows a heraldic eagle looking left. In its talons are arrows and olive branch, the symbols of preparedness and peace. The denomination HALF DOL. is below the eagle.
The previous half dollar, the Capped Bust, had a similar reverse from 1838 to 1839. Prior to that, the denomination was written as 50 C.
