1861 Seated 50C (1861 Half Dollar) ANACS G6. Seated Half Dollar. This Civil War dated Liberty Seated 1861 Half Dollar shows honest wear appropriate for the grade assigned. There are full rims on both sides. Although LIBERTY is not visible, the date and the other legends are plain and readable. The coin is evenly toned with light devices and darker fields and rims.
The Liberty Seated half dollar was the workhorse of its day. With a mintage of 2,887,400, it is small compared to todays mintages but large for its time.
The 1861 is a Variety 1 type (resumed) with a weight standard of Variety 2, 12.44 grams. The various varieties of the Liberty Seated half dollar were used mostly to show changes in weight.
