1861 Seated 50C (1861 Half Dollar) ANACS VF30 Details. This Civil War dated Seated Liberty 1861 Half Dollar has retoned and exhibits an almost original look. The devices are a light silvery-grey, and the fields are a mixture of aqua and tan closer to the rims. All of the letters of LIBERTY are present, with the strong L and I confirming the grade. The coin was fully struck as indicated by the stars details on the obverse.
The 1861 is a Variety 1 type (resumed) with a weight standard of Variety 2, 12.44 grams. The various varieties of the Liberty Seated half dollar were used mostly to show changes in weight.
Christian Gobrecht designed the coin, although modifications were made by James Barton Longacre, who made new hubs for all silver denominations.
