1861 Liberty Quarter Eagle. New Reverse. MS-63 (PCGS). OGH. ( Old Green Holder ). Intricately defined, the surfaces have obviously been blessed with a powerful strike from the dies. Both obverse and reveses also possess lovely rose-gold color that, in conjunction with satiny mint luster, provides above-average eye appeal for the assigned grade.
This is an exceptional Choice uncirculated gold quarter eagle, struck during the first year of the Civil War. Minimally abraded, as well, and perfect for inclusion in an early-date type set of Liberty gold coinage. Imagine this coin being hand selected by a fellow collector in 1861 who considered this gold coin to be enough of a find so as to collect it, or just keep it and put it away as a form of savings. Here we are , so close to 150 years later and not only has this gold coin with a unique history withstood the test of time , it's aged well and has gotten better over time, and its also quite a nice find and a good way to enhance our savings.
