1871-S $20 NGC AU-55 As other San Francisco issues from this era, this issue had a fairly high mintage but saw extensive use and exporting shortly after its mintage. As a result, examples are generally available in lower grades but become increasingly scarce in higher grades. When a piece has the originality of the present piece, they should not be mistaken as common as often done.

The coin offered here is in the distinctive minority of those that have not been mistreated since they were minted. Although it does show some sign of circulation, and luster only remains in the protected area the coin is much better than average for this issue. Wonderful orange-red-green patina shows on both sides, which both of very clean fields. A great coin for the discriminating collector!
