1877 Dime (1877 10C) PCGS MS66 CAC. Mint luster hides beneath the multicolored surfaces of this lovely 1877 Seated Dime. The obverse colors are green, gold, violet, yellow, purple, and light grey. The central portion of the reverse is tan with bright teal, violet, gold, and grey around the periphery. The grade of MS66 is confirmed by CAC. The obverse strike shows central flatness on the drapery and Libertys hair. The reverse strike is full and sharp. The obverse shows Christian Gobrechts Liberty Seated motif in which Liberty looks over her right shoulder. In her left hand she holds a staff with a Phrygian cap on top of it. Her right hand she touches the top left of a Union shield which is inscribed LIBERTY. The legend UNITED STATES is to the left of her head and OF AMERICA continues to the right of the cap, with the date below. Dentils border the periphery of both sides of the coin. The reverse, redesigned by James Longacre shows a wreath of corn, oak, maple and wheat. The denomination ONE DIME is in the center of the reverse.

There are five varieties of Liberty Seated Dimes, two of which were used at two different times. Variety 1 had no stars on the obverse and was issued from 1837 to 1838. It was followed with Variety 2 that had stars on the obverse from 1838 to 1853. Variety 3 added arrows at the date and was used from 1853 to 1855. In 1856 Variety 2 was resumed until 1860. The legend was moved to the obverse for Variety 4 from 1860 to 1873. Arrows were added to the date in 1873 and 1874 which made Variety 5. In 1875 Variety 4 was resumed and used until the end of the series in 1891. The present coin is a resumed Variety 4.

The 1877 dime had an original mintage of 7,310,000. In its population report PCGS shows 8 at MS 66 with 3 better. CAC shows 3 with 1 better.
