1881-CC Eagle $10 NGC XF45 CAC. Very popular because of their link to the wild-west days of Nevada, this affordable Carson City ten dollar gold piece would be a perfect addition to a set of coins from that famous Mint.
Not as expensive as other dates, it comes with excellent eye-appeal and great detail for the grade. Unlike other coins in this and similar grades this coin has retained its original skin, which looks very pleasing in hand, but is difficult to find these days. 24,015 pieces were struck for circulation, a relatively low number within the context of the series, although it was a record for the Carson City Mint in 1881.
From the original mintage, it is estimated that no more than 400 pieces survive in all grades, including impaired examples. In our opinion, that makes this coin an absolute bargain, and a coin which has interesting stories linked to it.
While not as much as the double eagles of this Mint, many eagles were exported as well, and it can be guessed that part of the mintage was melted in overseas melting pots. The present coin did not went through that, and with it moderate marked surfaces and khaki-green gold coloration makes for a great example of this scarce date. Lightly worn, with much detail still visible and finally, stickered by CAC as well
