1889-CC Morgan Dollar - 1889-CC Morgan $1 NGC VG10 CAC. This circulated, Western branch mint 1889-CC Morgan Dollar is original and extremely clean for the grade. The surfaces have only a few abrasion marks that are not at all distracting. The coin is solid for the grade with moderate wear on most of Libertys hair. Her ear shows distinctly. The eagles breast is also worn; however, more than half of the wings show including the tips. Shades of light and dark gray are present on both sides of the coin. The CAC sticker indicates that this piece is a premium quality one that fully merits the assigned grade.

George T. Morgan designed the dollar. It shows a close head of Liberty in profile facing left. She wears a headband inscribed LIBERTY. In her hair are cotton, corn, wheat, and tobacco. She wears a modified Phrygian cap and is surrounded with the motto E PLURIBUS UNUM, thirteen stars (seven left and six right), and the date. The reverse shows an eagle with wings raised looking left. In its talons are arrows and olive branch, symbols of preparedness and peace. A wreath is below and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST is above. Except for the eagles wing tips, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and ONE DOLLAR circumscribe the design. The mintmark is below the wreath and above the denomination.

Authorized in 1863, the Carson City Mint began coinage in 1870 and continued until 1893. It was then operated as a government assay office until 1933 when it was closed as a cost cutting measure. During its operation it made fifty-seven different types of gold coins. It also converted gold bullion and oar into gold bars, which were shipped to San Francisco for coinage there. Coins issued from the Carson City used the CC mint mark. Originally established to convert silver from the Comstock Lode to coinage, the Carson City Mint also processed gold in to gold coins.
