1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar (1889-CC Morgan S$1) PCGS XF45. Some mint luster is seen in Libertys hair on this lovely circulated 1889-CC Morgan Silver Dollar. The coin is a grey with tints of blue and tan, near the edge, on the obverse and rose and blue on the reverse. The hairlines are very plain but show some wear over Libertys ear.
On the reverse wear is seen on the eagles breast. There are some light marks on Libertys cheek next to her ear and a small scratch under the eye. On the reverse there are a couple of very small bag marks in the field near the eagles head. The strike is strong on the reverse, somewhat less so on the obverse. Coinage began at the Carson City Mint in 1870 when a Liberty Seated silver dollar was produced. In 1884 Democrat Grover Cleveland became president.
He fired all the Republican appointees including the top officials at the Carson City Mint and shut it down. A year later it reopened as an assay office. When Republican Benjamin Harrison became president, he fired Clevelands appointees and replaced them with Republicans. In 1889 coining operations at Carson City resumed, and the present coin was issued.
