1892 $10 (1892 Eagle) NGC MS61. This 1892 Eagle is characterized by a full strike and significant mint luster. Surface abrasion, typical of the grade is seen with one heavier mark under the second T in TRUST. The strike is bold. Every detail of each star, curl, feather, and line on the shield is sharp and clear.

The coin is a Motto Added type which was brought about as a result of a letter written to Secretary Salmon P. Chase by the Reverend Mark Richards Watkinson of Ridleyville, Pennsylvania. Watkinsons letter was the first requesting that Gods name be added to our coinage. The motto was a subtle reminder that the North considered itself on Gods side with respect to slavery. Congress passed the enabling legislation on April 22, 1866. The motto remained on the eagle until 1907 when Theodore Roosevelt asked designer Augustus Saint-Gaudens to omit the motto on his new Indian Head ten-dollar coins.
