1900-S $20 Partial Collar error NGC MS-61 CAC All gold coins are extremely rare with any kind of error, and when they appear they are seldom as dramatic as the piece we offer here in exceptional quality. This particular piece was struck without a collar, having a broad look, particularly on the obverse. This kind of error is rare on any denomination, but the quality control for gold coins was especially strict at the time this coin was struck. Gold coins were considered to be the prime pieces of art for a nation, and errors were not allowed. As such, the existence of this coin appears to have been just a piece of rare luck.
While this piece shows a dramatic error, it is also of excellent quality. Some bagmarks are visible on both sides, consistent with the grade, but overall the eye-appeal is excellent. Full luster is visible on both sides, which have been well struck. The error can be clearly seen in the new NGC holder, and the coin has been stickered by CAC for exceptional quality. Rare, this coin sure is to please both error and double eagle specialists alike.
