1905-S Half Eagle (1905-S $5) NGC AU58. Some muted mint luster still adheres to the devices of this San Francisco Half Eagle. Light abrasion is seen on both sides of the coin as well as some bag marks on Libertys cheek. There is also a trace of wear at the top of Libertys coronet, in keeping with the grade. The strike is average on the obverse with some weakness over the ear but strong on the reverse with all of the details full and sharp.

Designed by Christian Gobrecht, the coin is the Type 2 variety because the motto, IN GOD WE TRUST was added to the reverse in 1866. This design remained in use until 1908 when it was replaced with the Indian Head design for the half eagle.
