1926-S Oregon 50C NGC MS65 CAC. Tons of bright mint luster and light golden obverse toning, which darkens towards the periphery, draw ones attention to this lovely 1926-S Oregon Half Dollar. The gem grade is confirmed by CAC, and the strike is above average. Typical weakness is seen on the thumb and index finger holding the bow. Designed by Laura Gardin Fraser, the coins obverse shows an Indian brave without a peace pipe, holding up his hand in warning to the settlers. Behind him is a map showing a group of Conestoga wagons on the trail to the West. The reverse, designed by James Earle Fraser, Gardin Frasers husband, shows a Conestoga wagon taking a family to the West. Below the wagon is the inscription OREGON TRAIL MEMORIAL.
Some of the first year of issue coins, 1926 and 1926-S, were placed in circulation or mishandled by the general public; consequently, authentication is highly recommended. (Note: All USRCI coins are authenticated by one of the major grading services.)
