One of the 20th Centuries Must Have Ultra- Super-Neato coins is the 3 legged Buffalo Nickel. Designed by sculptor James Earle Fraser, Buffalo Nickels are considered a true American design with a Native American based on Lakota Chief Iron Tail and Cheyenne Two Moons ( who fought at the battle of the little big horn ) on the obverse and an American Bison on the reverse. But in the case of the 37-D 3 Legged variety, it appears that the Buffalo's 4th leg does not exist as excessive die polishing apparently resulted in the legs disappearance while surprisingly the hoof still remains intact.
