1943-S 25C Mint Error Die Adjustment Strike NGC. Die adjustment errors are coins that got away when mint workers werent looking. When a coin press is being set up for a run, some test coins are struck to insure proper setting, depth of strike, and striking pressure.
Most adjustment errors appear poorly or weakly struck, although the die adjustment may also result in a strike too hard. Both kinds are avidly sought by error collectors. In either case, test coins produced during die adjustments are supposed to be removed and destroyed. Yet some few always escape detection, like this one, a 1943-S Washington Quarter.
