1982 MW Poland 1000Z, John Paul II Visit, KM # Y144, NGC AU58. Here is a near-Uncirculated 1982 1000Z silver commemorative of Pope John Pauls visit. The coin is lightly toned gun-metal gray with hints of aqua and gold. The surfaces are original and exceptionally clean for the grade with virtually no visible abrasion marks. The strike is excellent with full details on both sides of the piece.
The coin depicts the Pope in profile facing left wearing his papal robes. Below is his name, Jan. Pawel. II. The reverse shows an Imperial eagle separating the date. The inscription POLSKA PZECZPOSPOLITA LUDOWA, or The Peoples Republic of Poland surrounds with the denomination below.
Although Pope John Paul II traveled to many countries, perhaps his most significant visit was to Poland in 1979. He uplifted the nations spirit and sparked the formation of Solidarity, which later brought freedom and human rights to Poland.
