1986 1-ounce Gem Uncirculated China Great Wall Silver coin. This is a really nice looking coin with a beautiful design on both the obverse and reverse. On the obverse is a picture of the Great Wall of China, and on the reverse is a Clipper Ship. The coin is a little larger than the size of a U.S. half-dollar and contains 26 grams (almost 1-oz) of .900 pure silver. The Coin is sealed in a plastic capsule, and packaged in a nice wooden box. It comes with a Certificate of Authenticity. This is a really unique and attractive coin. In 1866 the "great tea race" between 16 ships loaded with tea from China headed to London took place..the 15,000 mile trip took less than 90 days for the 4 clippers..the other 12 over 120 days...Britain soon built their own clippers... Amazing detail in the strike. The obverse shows a lonely lookout upon a long desolate stretch of The Great Wall. On the reverse a Baltimore Clipper, first built by America to outrun the British fleet during our fight for independence. The Baltimores' extra spread of sail and sleek hulls meant that they could "clip" the last inch of wind from the sails. They also proved invaluable to our early shipping/trading with the world. The first ships to arrive with needed goods/supplies often got paid premiums, strengthening a young American economy. Top pop coin! Population only 3 coins, none graded higher as of 12/12/2007
