1987 United States Constitution Commemorative 4 Coin Set

This handsome set was issued in 1987 by the United States Mint to commemorate the bicentennial of arguably the most important document ever written in the history of democracy, the United States Constitution. Public Law 99-582 which called for the creation of these coins was signed by President Ronald Reagan on October 29, 1986.

Included in the mahogany presentation case are proof and uncirculated one dollar 90% silver coins, proof and uncirculated five dollar 90% gold coins, and a detailed certificate of authenticity issued by the U.S. Mint.

At just under one half ounce of pure gold and one and one half ounces of pure silver, the intrinsic value of the precious metals in this set makes a terrific investment in their own right. However, the numismatic and symbolic value represented by the designs on these coins is indeed priceless.

Adopted on September 17, 1787 at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia, PA and later ratified by individual conventions in each state, the United States Constitution is the foundation of this democracy. Replacing the Articles of Confederation, it is comprised of seven Articles and has been amended a total of twenty-seven times. It has proven to be both rigid enough to protect the rights of the citizens that it serves as well as flexible enough to meet the demands of a changing world.
