Austria 1736 Taler Hall, Dav-1055 NGC AU55. Charles VI Taler 1736 Hall, Dav-1055, KM1639.1. This Choice About Uncirculated Austrian silver taler is a mixture of gun-metal gray and silver with iridescent rainbow shading. The colors attest to the coins originality. The surfaces are extremely clean for the grade with no notable abrasion marks or other distractions. The devices are highlighted with silvery mint luster that tones darker towards the rims. The coin is well struck with full details on the Kings hair, drapery and the design elements of the reverse. This piece was very well cared for and has been amazingly preserved for over 300 years.
The obverse shows the ruler Karl (Charles) VI. It is a mature bust facing right. The obverse legend is CAROL.VI.D.G.R.I.S.A.GE.HI.HU.BO. The reverse shows a crowned imperial double eagle with crowned arms within. The reverse legend is ARCHID.AUST.DUXBU.COM.TYROL. The coin was made at the Hall Mint.
If this coin were an early US silver dollar it would be at least fifty years newer and cost $5,000 to $7,000. When talers look like this one, they seem very much undervalued.
