C1900-06 Chicago, C.D. Peacock, HT-M21, Low-367, R2, NGC MS63 BN. This eye appealing, Mint State C.D. Peacock token has touches of original red mixed with brownish-coppery shades. The piece is well struck with a coin turn. It has nearly full details on the central motifs, and the peripheries are complete on both sides. The surfaces are original and clean with no notable distractions.

The obverse design shows a standing male peacock with tail feathers spread. The legend is C.D. PEACOCK. JEWELER 1837 CHICAGO. The reverse has a clock with Roman numerals for the hours. It is inscribed TIME IS MONEY with TIME above the center of the clock and IS MONEY on the lower part of the dial in two lines. 

Although the piece was struck in the early twentieth century, it is in the style of the Hard Times Tokens and is catalogued as such. It was made for the C.D. Peacock jewelry firm of Chicago, Illinois by the Gorham Manufacturing Company. The House of Peacock first started in 1837 by Elijah Peacock, hence the date on the token. In 1889 the name changed to C.D. Peacock after Elijahs son Charles Daniel, who took over the business after his fathers death. As Chicago expanded, so did Peacock. The stores carried fine jewelry, watches, and gifts. C.D. Peacock still exists and caters to celebrities and athletes from all parts of the country. The business is the oldest guild jeweler in the Chicago area.
