1858-D
Gold Dollar - The 1858-D Gold Dollar had an
improved strike for a Dahlonega Mint coin; however, many
were still weakly struck. This weakness was most prominent
on the central portions of the coin, especially the 85 of
the date. NGC has certified 9 above MS62 and PCGS has 12
above MS62. Of these 2 are in MS65 and 1 is MS66.
In 1858 Minnesota became the thirty-second
state. It is known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes.”
It is the 12th largest and 21st most populous state. More
than half of its residents live in the Twin Cities area
of Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Most of the original settlers
were of Scandinavian and German heritage. The word Minnesota
comes from the Dakota name for the Minnesota River. The
root word minne means “water.“
