J-327 1863 10C PCGS PF64 CAC, R-6+. This predecessor to the 2c, 3c, and 5c pieces introduced at the end of the Civil War was struck on an aluminum planchet with a plain edge. Featuring a Union shield in an obvious nod to the struggle raging in the United States at the time, this pattern coin was intended as a means to replace the largely unpopular fractional currency in use.
The specimen offered here is an ultra rare piece with a tiny certified population of just 15 pieces in any grade and only one graded higher. Encapsulated in a PCGS ogh (old green holder), it has received the prestigious CAC sticker acknowledging its high standing within the grade assigned. This rare and historically important piece from the Civil War is certainly worthy of inclusion in any high end collection.
