By the early 1870s, numismatics had become a popular pastime in the United States. Thanks to new numismatic periodicals, we now have a wide array of different fantasy pattern pieces, often superior to the coin designs found on regular coinage. A full set however, is still a very big accomplishment, as these issues can not be considered to be easily available. Of this particular issue, approximately 12 to 15 pieces are known in all grades, of which a number lack any originality.

With subdued toning over mirrored fields, this coin has good eye-appeal. Both sides are toned to various shades, including green, orange and light rose.
