J-561 (J561) 1867 5C PCGS PF63. R-5. Longacre Indian 5c in Aluminum! J-561 1867 5c Pattern. This stunningly attractive five cent pattern was designed by James B. Longacre. The central device on the obverse is an Indian Princess Head facing left and wearing a headdress of four large feathers with a ribbon draped. The inscription on the ribbon has the words Union & Liberty. There are also four large stars in her hair just in front of the ribbon. The full name Longacre F. is at the base of her neck. The F stands for the latin word fecit which means he made it. The words United States of America and the date 1867 sit along the rim. The reverse design features a
Roman numeral V (five) over an intricate shield with the motto In God We Trust above. Struck on an aluminum planchet with a plain edge, this piece is nothing short of breathtaking. A hammered strike has provided amazing definition to the intricate devices and given the piece a sculpted appearance. Pleasing and lustrous, the frosty devices provide wonderfully attractive contrast and as a result this specimen has excellent eye appeal. With a total certified population of just 40 at PCGS/NGC combined, this is an extremely rare and beautiful numismatic treasure that will fit nicely into any exclusive collection.
