I hope all is well. this week the principals are Viva Las Vegas, yes believe it or not even so close to Christmas the market is so strong that this final show before the end of the year will be well attended as dealers hunt the best possible coins for their clients. Then the world famous Florida United Numismatists Convention in Orlando just after New Years which should see 20,000+ wild and crazy coin collectors sporting glasses and cowlicks (just kidding, more like briefcases and cell phones) descend on Orlando to kick off what should be a great 2026 in the coin business.
This weeks hand picked offerings begin with an off the charts gem proof 1883 Gold Dollar in PCGS Proof 66 that also shows lovely original color followed by a pair of Civil War gold coins starting with an 1862 gold quarter eagle in very choice about uncirculated condition then an always sought after 1863 $3.00 gold (all $3's are scarce to rare with this specimen struck while the battle raged between the North and the South) in delightful very find 30 condition. Next up one of the great rarities discovered on the SS Republic Shipwreck in choice uncirculated condition, the ship which sank off the coast of Georgia during a hurricane in 1865 to which a mere 7 1859 Eagles were discovered with this specimen being the only coin graded as such with only 1 higher. Next up some cherry picked double eagles with a very low premium over common gold spot beginning with a pair of earlies struck in New Orleans in 1851-O and 1852-O both in about uncirculated condition followed by a choice about uncirculated and first year of issue 1866-S Motto that also sports a cac sticker followed by a near gem and very choice uncirculated 1894-S in PCGS MS-64 and also sporting a cac sticker. Coins like this run of double eagles with low premiums that are this nice are getting very difficult to pick off with investors hunting down low premium rarities as a gold bullion/rare coin play. Collectors just see them as a great opportunity thank you.
