I hope all is well. This week I'd like to go a little deeper into historical and numismatic information specific to early American $5 half eagle gold coins 1795-1807. This is a large subject despite the short span of years these great coins were struck.
The first official federal gold coin of the United States of America is the 1795 Half Eagle. This is a rarity that is always in demand not just by collectors but investors, dealers and others who wish to own a true piece of early American treasure. I have one available but there are some nibbles, you might have to act fast on this one. The 1st 3 dates of this series, 1795, 1796, 1797 are all small eagle coins which are extremely rare and expensive. The 1798, 1799, 1800, 1802/1, 1803/2, 1804 are all scarce to rare with rare being the key word in describing these coins that are in the higher grades. There are numerous varieties as dies were patched together as they cracked when striking coins creating neat sub-rarities contained in the series and entire books on the subject are available to the collector who wishes to take advantage of the numerous opportunities within this realm of better varietal rarities contained within the series.
