I hope all is well. Summer FUN ( Florida United Numismatists ) convention in Orlando is over so we plan for the next FUN show come January 2026. The FUN show and the ANA are the 2 largest coin shows by far in the country and the amount of activity or inactivity can act as a predictor of sorts in terms of what\'s coming in the coin business, what\'s taking place now, so we can all plan as best as we can to maximize fun and profits in the coin business and within our own collections. This FUN show was quite busy with the only complaint being a lack of fresh material to buy and in the cases of fresh material the amount of money we have to pay just to buy inventory for stock and want lists. We are in an excellent coin market.
This week we would like to present you with an idea for your own holdings as well as a rare set of 5 New Orleans Gold rarities making up what is known as a "type set" or "gold type set" which simply means an example of each type struck by in this case the New Orleans Mint, all pre-Civil War with the exception of the $5 half eagle which is post civil war and is nearly choice BU. . Buying or assembling a type set is a tried and true way to enjoy rare coins without having to assemble a complete set of a certain type of coin which can be a very expensive and daunting proposition for many collectors. Investors can also enjoy owning a "set" of something whether it be an example of New Orleans coins or any other mint and make a solid investment to set aside without breaking the bank. For now, here\'s a great set of better rarities representing each denomination of gold coin minted in "The Big Easy", aka New Orleans prior and post war between the states. A prize to own to be sure.
