July 23rd, 2025 - Hand Picked Gold and Silver Rarities

Hi All,

I hope all is well. As we start feeling the hottest month of the year coming up I hope you all a comfortable summer whether it be on your boat, or just relaxing in the air conditioning. It\'s been in the low 90\'s here with high humidity to match and its not even august yet. Whe n I first moved or was thinking of moving to Florida, I was a young man and hated cold weather in NJ so when august came around in Ft Lauderdale and the outside temp was 96 with a 96% humidity factor and a surf temperature in the 90\'s ( ! ) it was heaven. Would seem to rain for only a few minutes and then burn up and I was never going to live in NJ again ha ha. Well now at my age I prefer the a/c but let me even see the ocean and suddenly I take on a different persona and head to the water. It really can be paradise for those who like it warm, or in the case of this time of the year, hot!

Speaking of hot, if you have been paying attention to the precious metals markets you\'ll notice it\'s been hot there too and the numismatic market is not immune to this incredible amount of buying going on. The difference of course is the rare coin market is driven by physical supply and demand while the gold bullion market is not necessarily driven by anything physical. Want to know what the metals market is going to do? Find your way to Chicago and into the trading pits. The coin market? If you\'ve seen the thousands of collectors, investors and international buyers at the major coin shows you\'ll conclude a positive future for rare coins for sure.

This week begins with an example of the rarest Buffalo Nickel dates 1918/17-D, followed by a selection of exceptional gold coins and a very neat Great Britain Crown, please see below.

1918/7-D Rare Buffalo 5c PCGS XF-40

Considered the rarest of all 20th century rare coins. The Buffalo Nickel is also considered the most important Americana of all designs on coins with the American Indian on the obverse and an American bison on the reverse. The rarest of all Buffalow Nickels and prohibitively rare and expensive in mint state this lovely Buffalo is choice extremely fine and graded by PCGS.

$8,625

1837 Classic $2.50 Quarter Eagle NGC MS62

Sharp & lustrous. Low pop of only 16 coins graded as thus from NGC and a mere 6 higher. This seems to be a greatly undervalued series of early American gold coins with the earlies and latter dated gold taking the stage while the classics have been waiting for their day. A short series which contains several great rarities, this 1837 gold quarter eagle is quite nice in choice uncirculated condition.

$7,500

1890 Quarter Eagle $2.50 PCGS PF62 DCAM CAC

From a miniscule mintage of only 95 coins struck by the mint and an estimated survival of only 35-45 specimens in all grades this 1890 Proof Quarter Eagle is a tough proof gold coin to find in any condition and this one with a CAC sticker in Deep Cameo is rare.

$9,585

1895 Quarter Eagle $2.50 PCGS MS67

Jumpin Jehoshaphat! Mable it\'s a gem Coronet Quarter Eagle in GEM MS-67 by PCGS. Tied for finest known example of a highly-regarded low-mintage rarity. Population of only 2 coins at PCGS with this being one of those 2 coins. Stunning quality.

$16,800

1861 Eagle $10 NGC MS61

1st year of the Civil War Gold Eagle in choice uncirculated condition by NGC. Fresh appearing surfaces with minimal imperfections which will allow us to claim choice uncirculated for this example.

$7,250

1865 Double Eagle $20 NGC AU55

The final year of the Civil war brings us this very choice about uncirculated 1865 Double Eagle with much flash and great eye appeal. Perfect for a single example from the Civil War or to be included in a set of Civil War Double eagles or type set. Very low premium over an increasing gold market.

$4,950

1884-CC Double Eagle $20 PCGS MS62+

Wow, here\'s a very choice uncirculated 1884-CC Double Eagle from the famed Casron City Mint during the days when stagecoaches traversed the country with bags of these coins and armed robbers waiting when you least expected them. This is when the American west was won. Gorgeous and well struck this 84-CC will delight the fussiest of graders and satisfy the gold coin investor.

$19,600

1911-D St Gaudens $20 PCGS MS65

Oh when the Saints, go marching in, here\'s a 1911-D St Gaudens minted in Denver and in Gem Uncirculated condition. These seem so undervalued in general and when considering what gold spot is, even more so. Won\'t last long at $4,425

$4,425

1847 Great Britain Gothic Crown PCGS PF58

Large silver dollar size crown from jolly old England. Magnificent specimen in Proof 58. Metal Silver Diameter 38.61mm Weight 28.276g ASW 0.8409oz Mintage 8,000, an opportunity.

$10,350
