The economy is showing signs of strain under the price of real estate and the debt load and that's usually good for rare coins and other tangible assets. In today's day and age however what we have is a much more educated collector as well as investor who in general is many times more knowledgeable than buyers and collectors in the past with the exception of the true numismatists of the day. That said while it may have been a reach once upon a time to invest ones hard earned money in a coin series with the intention of reselling them only to find there precious few buyers. This is one of the areas where newer dealers get to earn there stripes. When I worked at the giant firm we all know and love, there were a number of employees who were let go and I became the recipient of clients. The lifeblood of any coin retailer and I was at both the one in New Orleans as well as Dallas. This is a rough business, you have to know coins, not reach for a red book when asked a question but know coins and be able to present them in a professional manner to collectors who want to purchase them or sell them
You get to know a little more about people under these circumstances and I must say that in all the businesses out there I find coin people to be among the brightest stars in the sky.
