March 27th, 2025- DOUBLE EAGLES DELECTATIONS-TOMBSTONE TERRITORY

Hi All,

I hope all is well. This week I thought we would focus just a little on what some refer to as the King of Numismatics, the Gold Double eagle. These coins were minted beginning in 1850 and were struck until fdr ruled gold to be illegal in this country in 1933 in which case all the 1933 Saints were allegedly melted down. That really didn't happen and now we know as a 1933 St Gaudens has sold for many millions of dollars. Yours truly had the opportunity to broker the King Farouk specimen of 1933 but the dealer who had it available didn't exercise prudence and that sale was lost to guys with badges as at that time it was considered illegal to own this coin and why yours truly had hoped to meet the buyer offshore. Sigh.

Being a Tombstone Territory tv show fan I'm thinking of putting a Tombstone territory set together which would range from 1881-1889 just like what they specify in the show. You all remember the show yes? Tombstone Territory - Please check my inventory list on the website and I'm sure you'll find at least a few Tombstone Territory Dates of gold coins. Match them up with the episodes where they dump a satchel of gold coins out on the table!

I bet this gives some of you budding numismatists some ideas?

Here's a few of this weeks favorites, some of which are extremely rare and very cool:
