October 22, 2025-Superb Civil War Silver Dollar-Rare US Gold Coins

Hi All,

I hope all is well. This week please find a very choice grouping of rarities to help light the way thru the most interesting markets we have the opportunity to enjoy for both our collections as well as make a good investment. We all like to make a good investment and I think you can find them in this weeks rarities. Meanwhile the gold market seems to have gone to pluto and a few of the double eagle offerings in the last few weeks have also moved to a point where we would pay you a little more than what you paid us for them just within the last few weeks. That should make everyone feel happy yes?

This week we show excellent hand picked choices from a numismatists standpoint and good investment coins.

First up is a beautifully toned first year of the Civil War 1861 Seated Silver Dollar in choice uncirculated condition PCGS MS-62+ which is the nicest example of this desirable date in a long time. Next is a superb gem quality 1903 gold McKinley Commemorative Dollar in unbelievable NGC MS-67+ CAC, followed by one of my personal favorite gold quarter eagles the 1848 No-Cal this specimen in choice about uncirculated 55 condition graded by NGC. Next a near gem very flashy 1878 $3.00 gold that is so nice if you don't have an example in your collection this one would be an excellent type to fill that gap, next a rare half eagle from San Francisco dated 1860, just before shots rang out at Ft Sumpter, The 1880 Carson City $5 is one of those desirable wild west minted half eagle gold coins below 10k, to a rare Eagle from 1889 in choice uncirculated MS-62 followed by a high grade and off the charts condition wise first double eagle of 1850 in very choice uncirculated MS-63 and lastly an excessively rare 1867-S Double Eagle in PCGS Uncirculated condition, with a CAC sticker.

1861 Silver $1 PCGS MS62+

The Sole graded MS-62+ specimen and she sure is gorgeous. Choice mint state Civil War Silver Dollars are easier to find in proof then in business strikes like this one. It's been a long time since we've had one this nice to offer. Population at pcgs is 1, this single coin in MS-62+

$12,000

1903 McKinley Gold $1 NGC MS67+ CAC

Holy cow, this McKinley gold commemorative is firing on all cylinders and then some, Gem MS-67, PLUS designation and Cac'd. None better at cac.

$3,925

1848 NO CAL $2.50 NGC AU55

NO CAL in very choice about uncirculated. No that's not a protest against California. In 1848 there were quarter eagles made from gold mined in California and designated that way with the letters CAL. This coins is the "NO CAL" version which is just about as rare but at a fraction of the cost that a CAL would run in the same grade. Please check your pops and jump on this NO Cal which is the much better investment than the CAL in our opinion.

$4,250

1878 $3 Gold PCGS MS64

Lustrous near-gem $3.00 gold. PCGS shows values at $7500. Been waiting awhile for one of these? Here's your chance at only

$5,545

1860-S $5 Gold NGC AU58

Conditionally rare. Only 2 graded finer. Bid=$20,000. PCGS:$30,000, Rare, only 4 shown in grade with a mere 2 better.

$17,350

1880-CC $5 Gold NGC AU58

Lustrous & pretty with excellent original look and color on this wild wild west half eagle from Carson City.

$9,100

1889 $10 Gold NGC MS62

Very choice uncirculated 1889 Eagle. Rare. Only 1 example graded finer (NGC MS63).

$7,675

$20 1850 NGC MS63

The First double eagle date minted for circulation in 1850. Very choice uncirculated MS-63 with top shelf and booming coruscating luster and sharply struck. Imagine what this double eagle has seen in it's years of history especially considering the giant gold curiosity it would have been ( and extremely desirable to own ) And someone did keep this one away from commerce, safely tucked away from being mishandled or spent. And here 170 years later you have the opportunity to own such a choice and important piece of numismatic history.

$53,500

1867-S $20 Gold PCGS MS61 CAC

Ex-Fairmont collection-quite exceptional 1867-S with sharp strike and exceptional originality and color. Cac population only 3 with 2 finer.
